FFA Intern Feature – Rukudzo Gawa, The Labz


Rukudzo Gawa was an intern for The Labz. He is currently studying Math & Computer Science at Kalamazoo College.

Can you tell us a little bit about your background?

I am from Harare, Zimbabwe. I grew up in a low-income family that worked hard to take me through half of High School where I later got a merit scholarship to finish off High School and eventually got admitted into Kalamazoo College with a full scholarship.

How was your life impacted by COVID-19?

I lost some opportunities planned out and also got extra financial responsibility. I am the only one in the family making an income right now.

Tell us about the company you are interning for and what have you been working on.

I have been working at The Labz in fixing minor bugs in the main application. I have loved the Glimpse experience.

What are some goals for a future career?

I want to be a Software Engineer or Quantitative Analyst and eventually go into entrepreneurship.

Who are your role models/ inspires you? Why?

Myself, my struggles push me harder.

What do you consider your superpower?

I can handle insurmountable pressure and I have unfounded persistence and a great fight within me.
